ivf

No that is a myth. Ivf is a very safe and simple procedure. There are neither operative procedure not overnight admission involved. The only thing is that science has not yet advanced that injections used in ivf can be avoided. But not to worry these injections are not that  much painful. These are injected subcutaneosly from a very small injection  needle similar to insulin injections. You may also ask your doctor to prescribe you local anaesthetic gel or spray which you can apply on your skin before injecting and that will help you to avoid that slight pain also. Therefore don’t worry and move ahead towards your ivf procedures and get blessed with a good news in your life.

Three parent baby IVF legalized in UK

Three-parent

Three parent baby IVF is cutting edge IVF technology in which the future baby’s mitochondrial DNA comes from a third party (Donor egg). Such treatment results in human offspring with three genetic parents, the so-called three – parent baby.

It is indicated to prevent mitochondrial diseases being passed on to children. Mitochondria are small structures that sit inside our cells and provide them with energy. Mitochondria have small set of only 37 genes apart from major set of genes in our nucleus.  Mitochondrial genetic disorders are known to affect about one in 200 children (mild ones) . Rarely Mitochondrial disorder may be serious affecting heart, liver, eyes, muscles.(Incidences of serious mitochondrial disorders is approximately one in 6500 ). Till today there is no treatment for mitochondrial disorders. So the new technique offers hope for many couples.

There are two techniques to stop mitochondrial diseases being passed from mother to child.

1. Mitochondrial spindle transfer (MST):  In this, eggs are collected from mother and donor lady using standard IVF procedure. Nucleus from Mother’s egg is removed and placed inside donor egg from which its nucleus has already been removed and destroyed . The hybrid egg is then fertilized with the father’s sperm.

2. Pronuclear transfer: In this technique but both the mother and donor’s eggs are fertilized first with the father’s sperm. Before the eggs divide into early stage embryos, the parents’ chromosomes are removed from the mother’s egg and placed into the donor egg, (after removing donor’s set of chromosomes first)

In this manner only 0.21 of total genetic information is contributed by the donor lady &the main genetic information comes from intended mother.

There are many ethical concerns in this procedure and heated debates are going on around the world that whether it is okay to play with the genes of future generations .It is currently not approved for general use in any country except UK, which legalized it in 2015.

This technique is also likely to offer help to older women who wish to have their own genetic child by means of transferring nucleus from mother’s egg to donor’s egg. But there are many ethical questions that need to be settled before it actually comes in to clinical practice.

Overcoming infertility.

In a country like India, where child birth and pregnancy are very emotional and sensitive issues, I have faced an even stronger reality in case of my inability to conceive. I was not becoming a mother because my husband’s sperm was not travelling well to my fallopian tubes to fuse with my egg. However, without losing hope, we went to the best clinics in Delhi and sought for a treatment.

The skilled and experienced doctors in the clinic told us that we had two options. The first one is the ICSI treatment Delhi or the intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection where the sperm is directly injected into the egg. This process was a very useful one as described by the doctors as the sperm was otherwise low in count and unable to travel long. However, we also had another option was to go to an IVF clinic in Delhi http://www.drrashmisharma.com/ivf-treatment.php, where I was supposed to undergo a small surgery where the doctors would collect my egg and fuse it outside the body. Although it is called a surgery, it is a simple process of inserting a needle like equipment through the vagina up to the ovary and collect approximately 9 or 10 eggs.

However, the doctors told us that in case my husband’s sperm is not healthy enough to fuse with the egg, we can also go for a sperm donation India. However, we were lucky enough to get the help from the best doctors and I succeeded in conceiving our own baby.
